Nebrija in the Philippines
This exhibition, an adaptation of the one organized by the Antonio de Nebrija Foundation, AC/E, and the National Library of Spain to mark the 500th
anniversary of the humanist’s death, aims to highlight Nebrija’s work and connect it to the publication of the first grammars of the Philippine vernacular languages—books that owe much to his teachings. Thanks to Nebrija’s influence, some of the Philippine languages (such as Tagalog, Ilocano, etc.) had grammars before several European languages did.
Following its two successful runs in 2024 at the Instituto Cervantes in Manila (Intramuros) and at the Benavides Library of the University of Santo Tomás (UST), the Lyceum of the Philippines University is now hosting the exhibition.
