Las cinéphilas
Martín LehmannWith this feature-length documentary, followed by El tiempo perdido (2020) and Las cercanas (2021), María Álvarez began a trilogy on art and its meaning in the passage of time. The value of art in giving meaning to people's lives, especially women's, makes her work an existentialist homage to the importance of culture in interpreting history, and vice versa. Synopsis: This documentary focuses on three retired women, living in Buenos Aires, Madrid and Montevideo, respectively. Although separated by a great geographical distance, all three have something in common: their passion for cinema. In front of the camera, they offer us a very special and unusual conversation that we rarely stop to listen to and that dismantles the stereotypes of the world of culture and cinema, traditionally associated with a young and masculine circle.
