On the occasion of the Ambassador of Peru in Thailand’s presentation of credentials to the Philippine government as the concurrent Peruvian Ambassador in the Philippines, Instituto Cervantes de Manila and the Embassy of Peru present the film “La Pena Maxima” (Operation Condor) based on the homonymous novel by Santiago Roncagliolo.
The Director of Instituto Cervantes de Manila, Javier Galván, will present the activity, while the Counsellor of the Embassy of Peru, Álvaro Salcedo Teullet, will present the film. At the end of the screening there will be an open forum.
A man is killed in Lima during the Argentina 1978 World Cup. Felix Chacaltana, a government employee, investigates the murder and discovers an international plot of kidnappings, disappearances and tortures. Felix also begins to discover the secret life of the country. Although Peru is apparently on the verge of returning to a democracy, the Peruvian opposition and the persecuted Argentinians start disappearing in military operations throughout the city. Felix tries to report this, but nobody believes him. Or perhaps nobody cares because they are more interested in the World Cup. Felix doesn’t know it, but he is about to lose his sexual and political innocence.
