Women in design. (Re) Designing the world

Women in design. (Re) Designing the world María Carmona

Our world is changing rapidly, and this change has been accelerating and intensifying due to global issues that we must address urgently. In this context, the need to find new solutions is critical. We must do more than simply create a better version of what already exists; we must build a new reality.

It is becoming increasingly imperative to transcend design ideas in order to understand the discipline as an incredibly dynamic agent of change, with the potential to influence our lives on various levels and in many different ways. We must understand design as an activity underlying all the material and mental manifestations we use for human well-being and development.
When we talk about design, we are implicitly talking about adding value based on a series of identified needs. These needs are addressed with solutions ranging from products to systems. Design is a discipline that tackles the economic, social, and environmental challenges we face.

As a people-centered and problem-solving discipline, design uses creative thinking to address the root of the problem in its broadest context, focusing on the cause rather than just the symptom.

Twelve designers from the contemporary Spanish scene have been selected for this project. Their view of the world and the values they defend and represent mean that their creative practice contributes to building a new, more sustainable and inclusive reality. Their craft processes, the materials they use, and their artistic discourse are part of a more human and committed reality.
