Bidasoa, 2018-2023
The second session of this year's virtual club, "Cita con el cine," is dedicated to the documentary Bidasoa, 2018-2023, directed by singer, producer, and now film director Fermín Muguruza.
The film, which combines animation with words, tells the heartbreaking story hidden within the Bidasoa River, a painful testimony to the sleeping voices of migrants who tried to seek a dignified life elsewhere and were unable to.
Synopsis
The police control and closure of some crossings along the Bidasoa River's natural Pyrenean-Atlantic border, imposed by France in the summer of 2018 to prevent the entry of migrants in transit to other European countries, resulted in ten deaths in one year. Seven people have died since April 2021, drowning in the waters of the Bidasoa River between Irun and Hendaye, and three more lost their lives in October 2021, run over by a train in Ziburu.
