Back to the Cinema

Back to the Cinema Instituto Cervantes

The Instituto Cervantes Manchester is launching “Back to the Cinema”, a series of study and film-enjoyment sessions designed for Spanish-language students and cinema lovers, led by Professor Ana Valbuena. The aim is to revive the collective experience of going to the cinema at a time when, due to the rise of home viewing and digital platforms, watching films in a movie theatre has almost become a thing of the past.

This participatory film club invites audiences to return to the cinema, to share the viewing of a film, and to transform that moment into a lively, dynamic space for connection. Following an accessible introduction in Spanish, the screening will take place with English subtitles. Following the viewing, attendees will be able to practise and improve their Spanish through a specially designed study pack based on the main themes of the films. In this way, language learning is combined with film analysis and with the rediscovery of the pleasure of watching cinema as a community.

A conversational level of Spanish is recommended.
