International Translation Day 2025: Shakespeare in translation
On the occasion of International Translation Day 2025, we are presenting a selection of Spanish translations of William Shakespeare's works featured in our catalogue.
This small exhibition aims to pay tribute to the work of the translators who, over the centuries, have brought the richness of Shakespearean theatre and poetry closer to readers and audiences in Spain and Latin America.
They include recognised names from literature and the stage such asLeandro Fernández de Moratín, Buero Vallejo, Juan Mayorga, José María Blanco White, Agustín García Calvo, and Pablo Neruda, as well as other less well-known but equally great translators whose efforts have allowed us to enjoy his dramas, comedies, and sonnets.
The book display also seeks to highlight the dramatists who adapted the works for the stage, creating versions for Spanish-speaking audiences.
It is the translators' work that has enabled Shakespeare's work to transcend its borders and become universal literature.
