Los que vuelven

Los que vuelven Andy Riva

Laura Casabé is one of Argentina’s leading horror filmmakers. In The Returned, her third feature film, she uses motherhood as a central theme to address the genocide of Indigenous peoples — a concern she had already explored in her short film The Return of the Raid (2010) — as well as class exploitation and impunity in Argentina’s Mesopotamia region. The overwhelming and majestic jungle of Misiones serves as a mythical backdrop where horror is confronted with solidarity and love.

Synopsis: A woman begs for her child to be brought back to life. Fortunately, her prayers are answered by Iguazú, the mother of day and night, and the baby returns from death with a vital and deafening cry, much like the sound of the powerful waterfalls of Misiones.
