Celia Rico's filmmaking debut was a true standout in the landscape of Spanish cinema. She received 18 nominations across various awards and won the Youth Award at the San Sebastián Film Festival as well as the Asecan Award for Best Film. The masterful portrayal of the relationship between a mother and her daughter, delivered by two distinguished actresses, Lola Dueñas and Anna Castillo, only served to underscore the narrative precision and excellent direction of a film that compellingly exemplifies the expression "good cinema".

Following an introduction in accessible Spanish and a full screening of Viaje al cuarto de una madre, with English subtitles, attendees will be able to practise their Spanish language skills using a specially designed study pack on film's main topics.

Synopsis: The relationship between Leonor and her mother Estrella changes when she decides to leave home. What they don't say to each other and what they must face sets them on a journey — both physical and mental — where they must learn to stop being mother and daughter to begin being themselves individually. It's a dual journey of identity, rooted in the everyday spaces and gestures that they've profoundly shared.
