Butterfly's Tongue

The first session of the "Film Series in Altrincham" will feature a screening of the film La Lengua de las Mariposas (José Luis Cuerda, 1999). Before the screening, a lecturer will provide an introductory presentation about the film. After the film, which will be shown with English subtitles, attendees are invited to participate in a discussion about the main themes of the movie.

Synopsis

Set in 1936, Don Gregorio, with dedication and patience, will impart his wisdom to Moncho, teaching him about knowledge, literature, nature, and even women. However, the ever-present threat of political turmoil looms, especially when Don Gregorio is targeted for being perceived as an enemy of the fascist regime. As a result, a rift will begin to form between these two friends, driven by the force of the surrounding context.
