La excritura de Juan Benet
La excritura de Juan Benet is driven by a collective desire, shared by editors and collaborators, related to the idea that Benet’s writing (his stories, narrative strategies, tales, and words) goes a step beyond not only the representational nature of language, but also beyond the purely historical, political, or vital. It delves into an existential dimension that runs through his pages like an ominous shadow, invisible, alongside the historical and political elements, alongside the lives of his characters, pulling us into the dark realm of “exwriting".
The book benefits from two innovations: on the one hand, it presents to the reading public a thorough and refreshing study of one of the greatest Spanish writers of the 20th century, offering original and theoretically articulated perspectives that produce a new way of reading Juan Benet’s novels. On the other hand, it brings together in this volume a series of expert readings that Benet’s critical work had not previously contained, intending to make visible what lies outside the writing itself but is contained within it. In other words, Juan Benet’s exwriting traces, marks, and records in literary language without necessarily intending to recover (or not solely recover) but rather to open new paths and other horizons.
This dual novelty is driven by the contributions of each of the collaborators, who approach Benet’s work from different fields of interest and intimate and personal perspectives, whether philological and bibliographical, or philosophical and psychoanalytical, to engage with or make visible these other horizons. A book that recovers Juan Benet’s figure as a modern thinker through literature.
