La calle del Agua
In 2021, Celia Viada made a resounding entrance onto the Spanish film scene with her debut feature, winning several awards that attested to its merit. La calle del Agua is a ghost story: a dialogue through the mists of time in which the Madrid-born director converses with Benjamina Miyar (1888–1961), a resident of the Asturian village of Corao, watchmaker, pioneering photographer and anti-Francoist resistor — a woman of great worth, silenced and forgotten like so many others. Synopsis: Benjamina Miyar led an uncommon life in her house on La calle del Agua, at the foot of the Picos de Europa. A photographer and watchmaker for over 40 years, she was also part of the anti-Francoist resistance. Her life and work vanished after her death. La calle del Agua is the meeting of two women who share a place across different times, the sketch of a portrait that emerges from what is remembered and what has faded. [Source: ICAA database]
