Fiesta of the Heart
The Instituto Cervantes in Manchester and Colibrí Mexican Folkdance UK, directed by Magaly Flores, present Fiesta en el Corazón [Fiesta of the Heart], a celebration of the 9th anniversary of Colibrí. The event features dances representing the rich cultural diversity of Mexico, with performances from Puebla, Durango, Oaxaca, Veracruz, and Chiapas.
In addition, the attendees will be able to enjoy a tasting of traditional Mexican gastronomy and coffee, offering an experience that brings together art, flavour, and tradition.
Colibrí Mexican Folkdance UK are an established dance troupe of native Mexicans showcasing traditional Mexican dance throughout the north-west of England and beyond. They are very proud to promote the traditional dances of their beautiful country. Since its foundation in 2016, Colibrí’s vibrant performances have been enjoyed by thousands of people at events including five Manchester Days and Manchester International Day. The group has performed for the Mexican consulate and Ambassador to the UK in Durham and London, Central Manchester Library, Liverpool Library, Birmingham University, Edge Hill University, Instituto Cervantes, the British Library in London and many more.
Magaly Flores, Colibrí’s Artistic Director, was born in Coyuca de Catalan, Guerrero, Mexico. She is a qualified art teacher in Mexico, specialising in dance education. She has a degree in Education from Edge Hill University, and is a member of the International Dance Council (CID), International Council of Organisations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF) and IIDDMAC, which investigates and helps resurrect, promote and preserve the culture of many regional folk dances across Mexico.
