Scotland: an inner journey

Scotland: an inner journey Sergio Romero

The Cervantes Chair at the University of Edinburgh presents the exhibition Scotland: An Inner Journey, by photographer Sergio Romero.

The exhibition is a photographic series created by Sergio Romero over many years of travelling through the Scottish landscape. The images that make up the project invite viewers to delve into their own inner world through a journey across the raw and awe-inspiring nature of Scotland. The connection between the external landscape and the viewer’s inner universe emerges through the contemplation of dreamlike and poetic forms that open the way to a space as real as it is imagined.

This unique and striking Scottish landscape awakens in the artist a deeply personal vision, far removed from any touristic perspective. It is a landscape offered as a metaphor, unfolding natural elements of great spiritual intensity that resonate individually with each visitor.

Sergio Romero lives in Glasgow, where he develops his work across various media including photography, drawing, and painting. Since 1995, he has exhibited in numerous venues, with recent highlights including La imagen con la palabra (Instituto Cervantes Manchester, September–December 2019), Bridges of Exile (Riverside Museum, Glasgow, September 2019), and María Zambrano: The Image and the Word (University of Central Lancashire, Preston, December 2019–January 2020). Sergio is a regular collaborator with the Hispanic Society of Scotland. He has also coordinated and delivered talks and courses on Spanish art history at various institutions.
