International Book Day Storytelling: Pequeño Federico
The Instituto Cervantes in Manchester continues its programme to promote reading among
children. In this special session celebrating International Book Day, we will
dedicate our storytelling activity to Federico García Lorca, one of the
most beloved, admired, and influential poets in the Spanish-speaking world.
Through this activity, children will discover Lorca’s importance in our culture, his
luminous poetry, his joyful personality, his intense life, and his explosive creativity,
which embraced not only poetry but also theatre, puppetry, music, and drawing.
Federico García Lorca was an extraordinary artist whose overflowing talent
left a lasting mark on Spanish literature and the arts. His poems and plays are full of
emotion, rhythm, colour, and music. Through this storytelling session, children will be
introduced to his imaginative world, his boundless creativity, and his deep love for
popular traditions and flamenco.
To celebrate his work, his memory, and his passion for flamenco, participants will also
enjoy a flamenco dance workshop led by dancer and teacher
Christine Medows after the storytelling session.
