Classics of Spanish Cinema Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester

The Instituto Cervantes in Manchester presents the "Classics of Spanish Cinema" series, coordinated by Professor Andy Willis (University of Salford) aimed at bringing some of the greatest masterpieces of 20th-century Spanish cinema to the Mancunian public.

In this first edition, the series pays tribute to two of the most influential filmmakers in Spanish cinema: Luis García Berlanga and Luis Buñuel. With their unique vision and ability to challenge conventions, both directors left an unforgettable mark on film history, creating a legacy that remains essential to understanding Spanish cinematography.

Andy Willis is Professor of Film Studies at the University of Salford and Senior Visiting Curator for Film at HOME in Manchester. He has written widely about Spanish genre cinema and is the co-author of The Cinema of Alex de la Iglesia (MUP) and co-editor of Spanish Popular Cinema (MUP). For many years, he has been part of the programming team of the Viva! Spanish and Latin American Film Festival.
