Chico and Rita

Chico and Rita Chico and Rita

The second film that is part of the three screenings of this year's Beyond Babel Festival is a Spanish film called Chico and Rita.

This film will be introduced by Dr. Carmen Herrero (Professor in Hispanic Studies at Manchester Metropolitan University and co-director of the Film in Language Teaching Association).

Synopsis: Cuba, 1948. Chico is a young pianist with big dreams. Rita is a beautiful singer with an extraordinary voice. Music and romantic desire unite them, but their journey, in the tradition of the Latin ballad, the bolero, brings them anguish and torment. From Havana to New York, Paris, Hollywood, and Las Vegas, two passionate individuals battle impossible odds to unite in music and love.

The three screenings of the program will have a session exclusive for schools, in the morning.
