Charanga del Norte

Charanga del Norte Charanga del Norte

Instituto Cervantes Manchester brings this unique salsa and brass band and their incredible Latino rhythms to the city.

Having celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2018, the band continue their trip around the UK with live performances and outstanding events, including collaborations with the animator Guillermo Davis (Iyawo Studios)

Charanga del Norte is made up of 12 brilliant musicians from the British salsa scene: The conductor and flautist Sue Miller, pianist Kim Burton, bass player Ruth Bitelli, percussionists Dave Pattman and Andy Warner, and singer Guillermo Monroy. The string section features violinists Angela Antwi-Agyei, Nick Williams and Jon Lindh, and cellist Andy Wardale.

In contrast to the majority of salsa groups, Charanga del Norte features many female instrumentalists and promotes an approach that is more representative of Latino dance music in the 21st Century.
