British in Spain. A sociological approach

The attraction of the British for Spain comes from past times since those first travellers who described a country of passions and contrasts. As time has passed, the British have continued to visit our coasts in search of the climate, leisure, rest, and an ideal place to retire; having an impact on Spanish society by creating population centres with their signs of identity.

Instituto Cervantes Manchester presents a talk with Karen O'Reilly, Professor of Sociology at Loughborough University, where she explains this relationship between The British and Spain, focusing on the motivations for emigration and behaviour in Spain.

Professor O'Reilly is an expert in the study of the British abroad, with publications such as International migration and social theory (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013) or The British on the Costa del Sol (Routledge, 2000).
