Benengeli 2024. International Week of Literature in Spanish

Benengeli 2024. International Week of Literature in Spanish Instituto Cervantes

The Benengeli Festival is a unique event in the Spanish language due to its global dimension. The Instituto Cervantes network activates during the week of its duration, from 10th to 14th June 2024, acting as a true nerve centre of the language. A formidable neural network that expresses the best ideas, with the best words, from a representative selection of Spanish-language literature that spans the five continents during these days.

In 2024, the Benengeli Festival grows even more; now, activities will take place in 12 cities worldwide, with in-person guests: Sydney, Manila, Budapest, Utrecht, Brussels, Toulouse, Manchester, Madrid, Casablanca, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and Belo Horizonte. Additionally, several cities in Oceania—Canberra, Wellington, and Auckland—will host a series of preliminary activities throughout May as a prelude.

Over 110 authors from 25 countries will discuss, reflect, write, and speak during these dates in and about our language. Some will be in front of live audiences, while others will reach us through radio waves, media images, and the internet. This planetary festival is an exceptional occasion to reaffirm the value of the Spanish language and the need to cherish it, making it the best tool for creation and reflection.

Voices from a wide aesthetic and generational diversity will tackle this year’s central theme: “Literature: Humour or Tragedy,” reflecting on whether these ancient categories remain relevant in contemporary Spanish-language creation or whether the nuances and intersections between them define the current imagination.

Benengeli: the only literary festival that spans five continents, welcomes you.
