Raíces. Celebrating Hispanic roots
The Instituto Cervantes in Los Angeles
officially presents Raíces, a national essay contest that
highlights the contributions of Hispanic communities, which are still largely
absent from the collective imagination of the United States. Launched to mark
the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Raíces encourages
high school students to approach US history as a shared process, shaped by many
peoples and perspectives. A presentation by Guillermo Fesser, Spanish
journalist, correspondent in the United States, and author of Get to Know
Bernardo de Gálvez, a book used in numerous elementary and secondary schools
throughout the United States. Raíces is made possible thanks to the support of the
Embassy of Spain in the United States, the Instituto Cervantes, Friends of the
National Museum of the American Latino, Vista Higher Learning Language
Education, and Telemundo. Be one of the first to discover the
contributions that Hispanic communities made to the cause of American
independence and take home a signed copy of Guillermo Fesser's book.
