Parole
Parole (2024) is a documentary short film by Cuban filmmaker Lázaro J.
González that explores the phenomenon of humanitarian parole—a temporary permit
to enter and remain in the U.S. that the country grants to foreign nationals,
often for humanitarian reasons or medical emergencies—and its emotional impact
on families divided between Cuba and the United States. The film stems from the
director’s own experience, which he describes as a gift for his mother, and
aims to reflect the vulnerability of those who depend on a bureaucratic process
to rebuild their family life. Second short film screening in the session.
