Screens for Thought: Contemporary Hispanic Cinema and Critical Reflection in the Classroom

Screens for Thought: Contemporary Hispanic Cinema and Critical Reflection in the Classroom Liceus

In an era marked by the ubiquity of screens, this symposium—based on the book of the same name—proposes the use of Spanish-language cinema as a critical and transformative educational tool. Far from being a mere teaching resource, cinema should be conceived as a space for thought where image, emotion, and language engage in dialogue. The symposium, moderated by Teresa Fernández-Ulloa (California State University, Bakersfield), brings together pedagogical proposals that integrate contemporary Hispanic cinema into the teaching of Spanish—as a foreign, heritage, or native language—from critical, feminist, and inclusive perspectives.
