New ways of making films in Spain

New ways of making films in Spain Eva París, Dosinda Alvite

The Instituto Cervantes, in collaboration with Ohio Wesleyan University and Denison University presents the book La mirada horizontal. La mirada horizontal. Cineastas del siglo XXI. Autoría, compromiso social y conciencia de género by researchers Dosinda Alvite (Denison University) and Eva París (Ohio Wesleyan University). In their book, the authors explore the evolution of Spanish cinema in the last 20 years, highlighting the rise of female directors, analyzed through case studies of Judith Collell, Patricia Ferreira, Chus Gutiérrez, Inés París and Helena Taberna. The book also reflects on the challenges faced by women directors in an industry still marked by traditional power structures.

The authors will address, with presentation and moderation by Gonzalo del Puerto, head of ICLA's activities area, issues such as the public impact achieved by female filmmakers who combine social criticism with innovation; the gender gap in cinema; the role played by the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA), as well as other cultural and professional entities, in promoting change and intergenerational support for the dismantling of historical barriers that have prevented greater inclusiveness in the film industry.

The event ends with a recorded interview between the participants and film and TV director and screenwriter Inés París. The presentation will be in Spanish with consecutive interpretation summarized into English if necessary.
