Black Butterflies
Mariposas Negras
The Cervantes Institute, in collaboration with Fiacine, presents Mariposas Negras (Black Butterflies), winner of the Goya and Platino Awards for Best Animated Film in 2025. This animated feature film, directed by David Baute, is Spain's candidate for the Oscars.
The film explores the impact of climate change on vulnerable populations, who are sometimes forced to migrate. The plot follows the stories of three real women, Tanit, Valeria, and Shaila, who face the loss of their homes due to global warming and are forced to migrate. The animation used in the film serves as a tool to tell the story in an emotional way, allowing the audience to connect deeply with the experiences of the protagonists.
After the screening of the film, there will be a talk with director David Baute and singer-songwriter Rubén Blades, author of the film's theme song.
