LGBTQ+Ñ Festival 2024
ICLAThe LGBTQ+Ñ Festival, the first literary festival that brings together Spanish and Latin American writers who explore and celebrate sexual diversity in their works, represents a cultural milestone. This pioneering initiative seeks to provide a platform for creative expression and dialogue about the LGBTQ+ community in the world of literature, as well as to analyze the various creative and social realities in Spanish-speaking countries. The panel discussions and parallel activities, which will bring together authors, readers, academics, and activists, aim to explore, share, and discuss the experiences and perspectives of the LGBTQ+ community through literature and artistic creation. This first edition aims to continue annually and to become an open forum for discussion that brings together the most prominent LGBTQ+ creators in the Spanish-speaking world. WHY DO WE DO IT? • Because there is no other literary event specifically bringing together LGBTQ+ authors who write in Spanish, this festival aims to promote their works in a multicultural city like Los Angeles and to discuss the ongoing challenges. • Because it provides visibility to the stories of the LGBTQ+ community and fosters social empathy to continue driving the necessary changes. • Because the Instituto Cervantes aims to promote equality, inclusion, and diversity through various manifestations of culture. • Because Spanish is the second most spoken language in the United States, with around sixty million speakers, and California is the state with the highest absolute number of Hispanics: over fifteen million.
