Chuzalongo
Chuzalongo
The Cervantes Institute, in collaboration with Fiacine, presents the Ecuadorian feature film Chuzalongo as a candidate for the 2026 Oscar for Best International Feature Film. After the screening, the film's producer, Christian Mejía, will participate in a Q&A with the audience.
Synopsis: Set in 1895, in the midst of the liberal revolution, Chuzalongo is a suspenseful fantasy film inspired by the figure of the chuzalongo, a mythical creature that lurks in the agricultural lands of Ecuador. Known for its terrifying nature, the chuzalongo initially appears as a lost child, luring women and leading them to a tragic fate. Ortuño emphasises that his film is not only about telling a story, but also about reflecting on the importance of preserving and passing on the legends that form part of Ecuador's cultural identity.
