The Fishing Boats Of Kayar
As part of its Spanish Version series, the Cervantes Institute in Los Angeles presents the documentary Cayucos de Kayar, by Spanish filmmaker Álvaro Hernández Blanco. The film won the Best Documentary Short Film award at the Madrid Film Festival, as well as the same award at the Marseille-Cinehorizontes Spanish Film Festival and the Octubre en Corto Festival. It also received a nomination for the Fugaz Awards and is a candidate for the 39th edition of the Goya Awards. Synopsis: After 15 years in Spain, Thimbo returns to his Senegalese fishing village, where he is overwhelmed by sensations of nostalgia and uprooting, yearning and resentment. He also grapples with the influence he exerts on the local youth, who see him as a role model and seek to emulate him through a perilous journey to Europe by boat. After the screening, there will be a discussion, moderated by Álvar Carretero, between the film's composer, Arturo Cardelús, and the audience.
