Benengeli
For the sixth consecutive year, the Benegeli Literary Festival will take place—the only Spanish-language festival of its kind to be held across five continents. In 2026, more than a hundred authors from twelve cities in the Cervantes Network (along with three guest cities from Latin America) will come together for numerous in-person and digital events to offer a vivid snapshot of the highlights of Spanish-language literature. This year, the festival’s central theme will be libraries. Jorge Luis Borges’s metaphor of existence and life as the space of a library will serve as a starting point for a reflection on memory, imagination, and the inexhaustible thematic diversity that books are capable of encompassing. The activities will take place from May 25 to 29. On May 25 in Oceania; on May 26 at the centers in Asia; on May 27 at the centers in Europe; on May 28 at centers in Africa; and on May 29 at centers in the Americas, including for the first time the Instituto Cervantes in Los Angeles, with the participation of Mexican-born writer Reyna Grande and Peruvian writer Ulises Gonzáles, moderated by scholar, painter, and filmmaker Maite Zubiaurre (UCLA).
