This lecture series discusses writers and other relevant figures in British culture’s fascination with Spain on their travels from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day. The series brings together key participants in the areas of British and Spanish literature, politics, media and gastronomy who will present their travel experiences in Spain. The purpose of the lectures and round tables is to educate audiences while exploring scientific and academic points of view.
The series will give visibility to the important travel writing collection housed at Instituto Cervantes London and will explore the foundations that modern-day travellers, bloggers and new writers on social media have subsequently contributed to on the topic of Spain. Instituto Cervantes London’s travel writing collection is probably one of the most important on the topic, alongside those of the National Library of Spain and the Patronage of Alhambra, and will be explored in relation to new ways of writing and sharing pictures that shape the image of Spain in the media and on social media.
