An Unflinching Sky

An Unflinching Sky Nacho Reina

An Unflinching Sky is an exercise in historical memory directed by filmmaker David Varela and led by a group of young people who, using real testimonies from witnesses, debate the events that took place during a scorching July of 1937 in the Battle of Brunete, in Madrid.

Synopsis:
Brunete, in the western area of Madrid, was the site of one of the bloodiest and deadliest battles of the Spanish Civil War. A group of teenagers investigates, recites, and debates the testimonies of the soldiers who fought in that terrible battle. In doing so, they make the veterans’ and the fallen’s experiences their own. Meanwhile, the film shifts, adapts, and takes shape through the gaze of a new generation that is open to dialogue and critically re-examines the teaching and historical memory of a country in permanent polarization.
