European Political Refugees in the United Kingdom
British Library
Instituto Cervantes is collaborating on this conference organised by the European collections section of the British Library in partnership with European Union National Institutes of Culture (EUNIC) London.
Join us for a day of discovery and insights into the fascinating experiences and surprising stories of European exiles in Britain. An international team of academics, scholars, and curators will explore how European diaspora communities have woven themselves into the fabric of British society, fostering intercultural exchange and contributing to the shaping of modern Britain. Professor Mari Paz Balibrea from Birkbeck, University of London will focus on the Catalan avant-garde composer Roberto Gerhard, who settled in Cambridge, as a paradigmatic and relatively little-known case of the problems and opportunities of exile.
Aimed at specialists and the general public with an interest in this topic.
