May God Save Us
Two detectives are investigating the rapes and killings of elderly women: the violent Alfaro and the stutterer and insecure Velarde, played superbly by Álamo and by de la Torre respectively. The tense relationship between the two detectives becomes closer and more understanding as the investigation evolves in their search for the truth. More than a thriller, Sorogoyen's feature film after his success with Stockholm, is a character study with hints of black humour that looks at social tensions, police officers lives and Spain's Catholicism in the context of the Pope's visit to Spain in the hot summer of 2011, which coincided with the protests of 15-M provoking a local security challenge.
