Science Pioneers: A travel in time

Science Pioneers: A travel in time Instituto Cervantes

The Reina Sofía library at Instituto Cervantes London invites families to enjoy a fun, educational storytelling led by Andrea Holland, an actress and performing arts creator with extensive experience in activities for children. On the occasion of International Women’s Day (8 March) and the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11 February), the event celebrates the talent and curiosity of women who have advanced science throughout history.

In Pioneers of Science: A Journey Through Time, Dr Eureka, a brilliant and eccentric scientist, discovers that her Book of Women Scientists has been erased. With the audience’s help, girls and boys become young explorers who, through humor, clues, and small challenges, will rescue the stories of Spanish and Latin American pioneers such as Trinidad Arroyo, Elisa Soriano, Margarita Salas, Francia Márquez, Márcia Cristina Barbosa, and María del Pilar Carreón.

Through theatre, storytelling, and playful interaction, the activity reminds us that curiosity knows no gender and that anyone can go as far as their imagination allows. The session concludes with the collaborative mural “Scientists of the Future”, where each participant can draw their own invention and dream of changing the world.
