Instituto Cervantes in London presents a lecture series marking 50 years since the beginning of democracy in Spain.
The sixth and final event in the series will feature a lecture titled "Madrid, 63 Years On", delivered by journalist and writer Jules Stewart, reflecting on his years as a correspondent for Reuters in Madrid.
"Madrid, 63 Years On"
Jules Stewart’s first encounter with Madrid was in 1962, when he was a Spanish language student at the Complutense University. He visited the city several times throughout the 1960s and lived there permanently between 1970 and 1987, during which time he worked as a journalist—first as a freelancer and later as a reporter for Reuters—covering major events such as Franco’s death and Spain’s Transition to democracy.
