La Sonora Santanera + Mariachi, El Mexicano ¡Como no!

Instituto Cervantes London is collaborating with Como No and the Embassy of Mexico in the UK to present a living legend of Latin music, the band La Sonora Santanera.

This year marks an incredible milestone for La Sonora Santanera, the legendary big band that has defined the sound of Latin music for 70 years. Fusing mambo, chachachá, bolero, cumbia and merengue with their signature brass, bass, piano, percussion and four lead voices, the band has captured the hearts of Latin music fans around the world.
With iconic hits such as Perfume de Gardenias, La Boa, Luces de Nueva York, Escarcha, ¿Dónde Estás Yolanda? and Si Supieras, La Sonora Santanera is considered one of the most influential and enduring bands in the history of Mexican music. Their unique style and sound have made them pioneers of the Mexican tropical music tradition.

To celebrate their 70th anniversary, La Sonora Santanera brings their unforgettable performance to KOKO for a special night in celebration of Mexican Independence Day. This is an opportunity to enjoy their legendary music in one of London's most iconic venues.
The recent Grammy-nominated album En Su 60 Aniversario includes collaborations with artists such as Gilberto Santa Rosa, Natalia Lafourcade, Lila Downs, Carla Morrison and Rubén Albarrán of Café Tacvba, highlighting his ongoing influence on the Latin music scene.
As part of the event, we will also celebrate the official ‘Grito de Independencia’, the ceremonial shout that kicks off Mexico's Independence Day celebrations, by Josefa González-Blanco Ortiz-Mena, the President of the Mexican Republic.
