Talking About the Life We Haven’t Had
As part of Spanish Language Day, Día E, which we celebrate simultaneously at all the Instituto Cervantes centres worldwide on June 19, we have arranged the following activity: Talking About the Life We Haven’t Had. Bruised and half-naked, Mario barges into his grandmother’s house in the middle of the night. Thus begins a long-awaited conversation about those secrets and lies all families hide. On the surface, the play deals with themes such as violence in Panama City and gambling addiction. But the performance asks us to explore more fundamental issues such as family links and the manipulation of memories. ¿What are families for and how do we build the ties that bind them? ¿Can you manipulate your own memories to help you survive loneliness and desperation?
