Guitarrísimo: Imaginary Tablatures

Guitarrísimo: Imaginary Tablatures Ariel Abramovich & Jacob Heringman

Music for two vihuelas

Imaginary Tablatures (Cifras Imaginarias) is the first project to invent a songbook for two vihuelas that could have been published around 1560 in Seville or Valladolid. A unique opportunity to hear the marvellous poliphonic music of the 16th century in the hands of two of today's pre-eminent vihuela players: Ariel Abramovich and Jacob Heringman.

Ariel Abramovich (Buenos Aires 1976) studied classical guitar with José Luis Merlín and Miguel de Olaso, who introduced him in the Renaissance music. He learned lute and vihuela with Dolores Costoyas and Eduardo Egüez. In 1996 he moved to Switzerland for regular studies with Hopkinson Smith. For fifteen years he has been part of El Cortesano duo together with countertenor José Hernández-Pastor. He shares projects with John Potter, María Cristina Kiehr, Jacob Heringman, Giovanni Cantarini, Catherine King, Anna Maria Friman, Andrés Cea, Eugéne Ferré, Evangelina Mascardi, Michael Form and Rodrigo Calveyra.

The American-born lutenist Jacob Heringman studied with Jakob Lindberg at the Royal College of Music in London, and later with Pat O'Brien in New York. Based in England since 1987, he has established himself as one of the world’s most respected and most innovative solo lute players, and as a much sought-after ensemble player performing regularly throughout Europe and North and South America, and making many CD and radio recordings of medieval and renaissance music with leading English ensembles, including The Rose Consort of Viols, Fretwork, Musicians of the Globe, The Kings Singers, The New London Consort, Virelai and The Dufay Collective.

This event is part of the Guitarrísimo series organised by Instituto Cervantes and ILAMS with the kind support of the Embassy of the Republic of Venezuela.
