Héctor Abad Faciolince was born in Medellín (Colombia) in 1958. He studied Modern Languages and Literature at the University of Turin (Italy). In addition to essays, translations and literary criticism, he has published the following books, among others: "Asuntos de un hidalgo disoluto" (Alfaguara, 1994), "Tratado de culinaria para mujeres tristes" (Alfaguara, 1997), "Fragmentos de amor furtivo" (Alfaguara, 1998), "Angosta" (2003), "El olvido que seremos" (2006; Alfaguara, 2017; made into a film in 2020 by Fernando Trueba, recognised by the Cannes and San Sebastián film festivals and winner of the 2021 Goya for best Ibero-American film and five of the main 2021 Platino awards), "La Oculta" (Alfaguara, 2015), "Lo que fue presente" (Alfaguara, 2020) and "Salvo mi corazón, todo está bien" (Alfaguara, 2022). With his third novel, "Basura" (2000), he won the I Casa de América Prize for Innovative Narrative in Spain. He has also published a book of poems, "Testamento involuntario" (2011); a book of essays, "Las formas de la pereza" (2007); and another work of fiction, "Traiciones de la memoria" (Alfaguara, 2009). His books have been translated into more than fifteen languages.
