Echoes Festival of Latin Americal Classical Music

Echoes Festival of Latin Americal Classical Music ILAMS

The UK's first and only annual Latin classical music festival is back.

Now in its seventh year, the Festival offers a unique programme of Ibero-American classical music in London, while providing a platform for some of the most authentic voices in Latin classical music today.

In its programme, we can highlight:

- Alicia de Larrocha's centenary in 2023 offers the perfect excuse to revisit the documentary about one of the great pianists of the 20th century, a Spanish pianist with small hands, admired and loved the world over; a story of unbridled passion for music that leads us to discover the woman beyond the inimitable artist that was Alicia de Larrocha. "Les mans d'Alicia" features Alicia de Larrocha's daughter, Alicia Torra, as well as Claudia Torra, Kiko Torra, André Previn, David Frost, Gerald Schwartz, Gregor Benko, Hans Boon, Joaquín Achúcarro, Maria Joao Pires, Marta Zabaleta, Martha Argerich, Mònica Pagès, Miquel Lerín and Carles Horváth.

- A podcast with the commemorations of the year. 2023 offers the opportunity to explore a series of Ibero-American composers and artists whose lives spanned a period of more than five centuries, including Juan de Anchieta, Victoria de los Ángeles, Alicia de Larrocha, Tomás Breton, Francisco Barbieri, Ramón Garay, Pau Casals and Roberto Caamaño. This discographical tour of the major celebrations of 2023 offers an astonishing kaleidoscope of styles and genres with plenty of variety to enjoy. Ray will highlight key works, as well as revealing some lesser-known hidden gems from the Latin Classical catalogue. Plus, you'll discover the fundamental interpretations while learning about the music in context.

- Macaracachimba Concert. Guitar music from Puerto Rico. Hermelindo Ruiz, one of Puerto Rico's finest classical guitarists, makes his UK debut at the Echoes 2023 Festival showcasing the rich classical heritage of his homeland, with its compelling blend of Spanish and African influences. Juxtaposing tradition and innovation, this programme explores three centuries of rarely performed Puerto Rican composers and the Danzas Puertorriqueñas of Ángel Mislán, Juan F. Acosta, José Ignacio Quintón and Manuel Tavárez, alongside pieces by Ernesto Cordero and works written by Ruiz himself. Ruiz also presents the world premiere of a work written especially for him, Romanza, by Spanish composer José Antonio Tolosa.
