For the October edition of the Cita con el cine virtual film club, we will be watching María Casares: La mujer que vivió mil vidas, directed by Xavier Villaverde, which tells the story of the great actress’ life.

Following her family’s exile after the Spanish Civil War, she became one of the most famous actresses in France and won a César Award in 1988.

 

Synopsis

The documentary tells the story of María Casares, a woman whose life was changed by the Civil War and exile in France. We will witness alongside her key historical events that happened in Europe in the 20th century and cross paths with prominent cultural figures. She was a committed, tireless actress who sought bold and risky roles, which would later make her one of French cinema and theatre’s greatest actresses. [Source: ICAA database.]

The activity will be moderated by Instituto Cervantes staff and will be joined by the likes of filmmakers, scriptwriters and more who worked on the film. Enjoy cinema in Spanish!
