Loreak (Flowers). Presentation and Q&A with Miren Manías-Muñoz
The Leeds Instituto Cervantes joins forces with the emblematic Leeds Cineforum in this first screening of 2019. The film screened will be the Basque Loreak (Flowers, Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga, 2014). On this occasion, the film will be preceded by a short presentation by Miren Manías, Doctor by the University of the Basque Country and a specialist in Basque cinema. After the screening as is usual in the sessions of the Leeds Cineforum there will be a roundtable where Miren will give more information. Everyone is welcome to participate and share their concerns, doubts, reflections or comments that the film may have generated. Considered a foundational film in Basque cinema, Loreak won the Cine Latino Award at Palm Springs International Film Festival, was in official selection at San Sebastian Film Festival and was Spain’s submission to the Foreign Language Film category at the 88th Academy Awards. Ane’s life takes a turn when a bouquet of flowers is delivered to her house every week. Always at the same time and always anonymously. Lourdes and Tere’s lives are also affected by some mysterious flowers. A stranger leaves a weekly bouquet in memory of someone important in their lives.
