The Seams of War: El mundo que fue y que es (Pablo LLorca, 2011) Pablo Llorca

The stylistic and material sobriety is one of the keys to Pablo Llorca’s cinema, and it turns his filmmaking practice into an act of resistance. In both his fiction films and documentaries, Llorca tells unusual stories—overlooked by dominant audiovisual narratives—that nonetheless clearly illuminate the cultural and political coordinates of our country. The tracking shot through the history of the Spanish Communist Party in the mid-20th century, which he undertakes in this film, draws a sharp portrait of contemporary Spain, like footprints left on unstable ground. Synopsis: Divided into four parts plus an epilogue, the film follows the journey of several communist militants from the Spanish postwar period to the present day. Hovering over them all is the same central question: Should one remain faithful to the ideas they believe in, even if there is no reality in which to apply them? Or should one adapt to reality, at the cost of losing their core identity? [Source: Plat.tv].
