Happy 140

Happy 140 Foresta Films/Hernández y Fernández P.C/La Ignorancia de la Sangre/Tornasol Films

In June, a new free cinema screening series from the Instituto Cervantes is coming. This time, influenced by the #MeToo movement that has made an impression in society throughout the world, the central theme of the film series is 'Hispanic Women Filmmakers'.

The first film to be presented is 'Happy 140' ('Felices 140', 2015) from Spanish director Gracia Querejeta, a black comedy -or a blackly comic melodrama- which its main plotline could be summed up as "money makes the world go round".

This coral movie is starred by Elia (Maribel Verdú), a middle-aged veterinarian who is about to turn 40. To celebrate her birthday she reunites her friends in her fancy new holiday home. The guests do not expect what Elia has to tell them: she has won the EuroMillions lottery jackpot. When they receive the news she has won 140 million euros, the guests start planning how they are going to end up with the money.
