Interview with Laura Hojman and poetic reading of Machadian poems with actress María Estévez-Serrano Varios

On Thursday 16th September at 6.00 pm (UK time GMT +1), the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester and Leeds will have the pleasure of hosting an online event with the Andalusian documentalist Laura Hojman and the actress María Estévez-Serrano. The occasion will pay tribute to Antonio Machado, one of the greatest poets of the 20th century and a leading figure for Hispanic literature. Our director, Pedro Eusebio, will talk to Hojman where they will discuss her latest documentary Antonio Machado. Los días azules (The Blue Days) - that we will be able to enjoy online from the following day, Friday 17th September, for a limited time of 48 hours. 


During their conversation, Pedro and Laura will discuss various aspects such as creative and research processes of the documentary, the ins and outs of the shooting process, festivals and contests they attended, and Hojman's personal fascination with Antonio Machado. Along the way, we will stop to listen to María Estévez-Serrano, who will perform live a recital a selection of Machado's poems that she has carefully selected for the occasion.

Laura Hojman holds a degree in Art History, she has developed her career as a screenwriter, documentalist and producer as the face of Summer Films. In 2018 she made her directing debut with Tierras solares (Solar Lands), a feature-length documentary inspired by the work of Rubén Darío. It premiered in the official Doc España section of SEMINCI (Valladolid International Film Festival) and featured at festivals such as the Seville Festival, the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival and Scopes or IberoDocs (Scotland). Antonio Machado. Los días azules is her second feature film as director, which brought her the Best Director award at the ASECAN Andalusian Film Awards. Hojman is also the president of the Andalusian Association of Women of the Audiovisual Media (AAMMA).

María Estévez-Serrano continues to develop her career as an actress, poet and playwright between Spain and the UK. Her tribute to Federico García Lorca, “Verde, Agua y Luna” was a two-time award winner at the Latin UK Awards (LUKAS), receiving prizes for Best Theatre Production and the coming runner-up for Best Performance. María combines her artistic work with teaching and also has a degree in Philosophy by the UAM University (Madrid).
