The agonising and the divine. Writing cinema from literature
The event will be presented as a cineforum, i.e. a screening of the two short films Cuentas divinas (nominated for the 38th Goya Awards, Eulàlia Ramon, 2022) and Agonía (Eulàlia Ramon, 2024), followed by a conversation with the writer of both screenplays with Juan Muñoz (Professor of Spanish in the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies). This conversation will provide a brief overview of the author's literary work - in 2025 it will be 25 years since the publication of her first book, Essays on an Incomplete Character - and how it has ended up leading her to the cinema. She will talk about the themes common to all her narrative arc and how audiovisuals and literature can be communicating vessels when it comes to questioning the receiver about social concerns, feminism, black humour, historical recovery, friendship between women, the LGTBIQ+ collective, the unusual, the obscure, pop culture and classical culture, etc...
