Words on the Street: A European Literature Trail desconocido

Treat your eyes and ears to a new experience – hear voices from ten European countries, across a range of interesting venues you may not have visited before. This free event will take you on a journey across the cultural landscape, in an evening of celebrity readings of translated works by contemporary European authors – in locations around the Parnell Square Cultural Quarter.

There will be six readings in each venue. The first begins at 6.30pm with readings every half hour, the last at 9pm. All readings are free. No booking necessary. Instituto Cervantes’ participates in the festival with the reading of Javier Montes’ The Hotel Life at the James Joyce Centre by Irish actor Bryan Murray.

Javier Montes was born in Madrid 1976. He was awarded the José María de Pereda prize for his first novel, Los Penúltimos (The Penultimate).  He is a regular contributor to publications including Granta UK, ARTnews, The Brooklyn Rail or Literary Hub, ABC Cultural, El País, and has curated a number of exhibitions, including Beckett Films at the CAAC in 2011. In 2017 he has published Varados en Río (Stranded in Río).
