Flamenco dance workshop: Garrotín

With this workshop students will learn a variety of the Flamenco dances (palos) while keeping active.

This Autumn sessions will focus on the garrotín, a flamenco dance (palo) rooted on the folklore of Asturias (Spain) though it is believed that it was developed by the gypsies of Lleida firstly, followed by the gypsies in Barcelona. With its lively tango rhythm, the garrotín enjoyed great popularity until it disappeared in the 1930s. It was a Catalan gypsy, Carmen Amaya, who kept it alive and made its recovery possible in the seventies. It is frequently danced with a hat.
