Discover the life and memories of this iconic Spanish-Argentine musician through this conversation and documentary screening with Alejo Stivel. The Spanish-Argentine musician Alejo Stivel will talk with the Irish diplomat and hispanist Kenneth Thompson about his memoir Yo debería estar muerto (Espasa, 2024), in which he gives a vibrant account of his musical and life journey, which includes a visit to Dublin (and a meeting with Bono) years ago, thanks to which he got to know the musical culture of the island.

Alejo, Ariel Rot, also of Argentinian origin, and the other three members who founded the legendary band Tequila in the early 1980s revolutionised the rock scene in Spain and provided the soundtrack to the liberation of young Spaniards in the transition to democracy. The talk will be followed by a screening of the documentary Tequila. Sexo, Drogas y Rock and Roll (2022, 92'), directed by Álvaro Longoria, produced by Morena Films in collaboration with RTVE and narrated by the actress Cecilia Roth, which tells the story of the group.

Alejo Stivel (Buenos Aires, 1959), singer, composer and musician, arrived in Spain in 1976 when his parents fled the dictatorship in Argentina. He released four highly successful albums with Tequila between 1978 and 1981 and, after the dissolution of the band in 1983, he has continued to be linked to the world of musical composition and production, in collaboration with numerous Spanish and Argentinean musicians, as well as with his solo musical career.

This event is part of the Celtic Camino week, organised by the Spanish Embassy in Ireland.
