Paula

The second film by director Florencia Wehbe, who had debuted with Mañana tal vez (2020), focuses on the protagonist who gives the film its title and who will delve into the difficult world of eating disorders. The camera powerfully zooms in on the figure of a teenager dissatisfied with her body; and it is precisely the idea of a body that does not want to be recognized that serves as the point from which the film seeks to transcend the struggle many women face as they navigate these painful processes.

Synopsis: At only fourteen years old, Paula hates her body. In an attempt to express what she feels, Paula creates a blog and becomes part of a large virtual community that shares her problems. Shielded by anonymity, she uploads content recorded with her mobile phone, exposing her friends and family. The feeling of belonging blinds Paula, leading her down a solitary path where bulimia and anorexia loom as alternatives in her search for self-acceptance. [Antipode Films]
